We are not victims of our biology or circumstances. How we react to the events and circumstances of life can have an enormous impact on our mental and even physical health.
As we think, we change the physical nature of our brain. As we consciously direct our thinking, we can wire out toxic patterns of thinking and replace them with healthy thoughts. New thought networks grow. We increase our intelligence and bring healing to our brains, minds, and physical bodies.
It all starts in the realm of the mind, with our ability to think and choose–the most powerful thing in the universe after God, and indeed, fashioned after God.
Back in July 7, 2015, Liz Szabo of USA Today, reported that more women (two times more in the last 10 years) and more people in the middle class are using heroin.
It has been suggested that prescription drugs such as Percocets, Oxycontin, and Vicodin have been over prescribed. Because of the epidemic in addiction to these drugs, Doctors have been encouraged to stop prescribing them as readily.
What would you do if there was a switch that can be activated that would allow you to excel to levels of peak happiness, thinking, and health? Would you flick the switch on? Or, if there was a pill, would you select it and swallow it?
A little jaunt down a rabbit hole here, the pill question reminded me of the scene in the 1999 movie the Matrix. In the youtube video you see Morpheus giving Neo a choice.
Have you ever had a life changing event? An incident that marked your life forever? I had such an event last year.
My family and I had gone on vacation to Niagara Falls at the end of summer in the year 2014. As we walked around and viewed the wonder and beauty of the falls, I noticed that I started having tightening in the chest. I felt no pain, just a tightening and being out of breath. It was alarming.
The Holy Grail!
Prior to the summer of 1954, urban legend has it that scientists and other experts stated, that a running a mile in under four minutes was impossible. It had been said that this was track and field’s most famous barrier, the holy grail.
Watch the barrier fall by clicking on this link:
On May 6, 1954 at Oxford’s Iffley Road Track, in England, a 25 year old named Roger Bannister broke through track and field’s most famous barrier. He had done the impossible!
Looking for a good time with family and friends? A time that has the potential of being wonderful, and refreshing? If you thought “yes,” then I would like to say that one of the ways to enjoy each other’s company is to go camping together.
This past weekend my wife and I went camping with our granddaughter Mikaela. We had promised her that we would take her camping once, maybe twice this summer just after school got out. We got to a point where we were running out of summer weekends. OH NO!
I was meditating on memory techniques. I’ve been studying a book entitled “Switch On Your Brain” by Dr. Caroline Leaf. I feel compelled to master the concepts in the book. I was reading and re-reading the Prologue and 1st chapter carefully but, the concepts were not sticking.
About a year ago I learned of the Memory Palace or the Method of Loci in a TED Talk given by Josh Foer as a memory technique. I subsequently bought Josh’s informative book entitled “Moonwalking With Einstein” and enjoyed it.
After a long absence from blogging, I’ve decided to start back up. There were a couple of things that affected my decision to hold off for a bit.
- I was struggling with my concepts of faith in my precious Lord Jesus Christ, and the topic matter in which I was writing at the time. I felt I needed time to reset.
- I was having excruciating hip pain. At first I had no idea as to why. It hurt to sit. I could not sit for prolonged periods of time. From a scale of 1–10 with 10 being the most pain, I was at a 7 or 8. So sitting to blog exacerbated the pain.I didn’t want to take pain medication, so I did my best to deal with it. My hip is now getting better. I’ve corrected the issue by my confessions of faith in Christ as my healer, exercise, stretching, and I purchased an ergonomic desk chair. I also make sure I get up frequently and move around.
Do you have unrelenting thoughts and feelings of dread? Do you feel like you are being viciously worn down by them? Are there practical ways in which we can stop them?
God’s desire is to take us from tribulation to victory. As with the Israelite’s coming out of Egypt all those years ago, this might not be recognizable through our finite minds, as we go through our trials. But, He has equipt us with His ability just the same.
Have you ever felt like drowning in your sorrows? Or have you ever felt in jeopardy? Do you feel you are about to perish with the water raging over head?
We must remember that Satan feeds on our weaknesses and delights in exploiting our vulnerable points. He feeds on our vulnerabilities.
