Life More Abundantly

John 10:10 is one of my favorite verses in the Bible! “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it  more abundantly!”

In Smith Wigglesworth message “The Baptism of the Holy Spirit,” he makes reference to the expression “much more” found in Romans 5. This is mentioned 5 times in the chapter.

Smith exults “Oh that we might take this abundant grace of God, revel in the Word of God, and be full of expectancy that we will have this ‘much more’ manifested as fruit in our lives.”

Let’s look at the five places where this “much more” is referred:

  1.  Romans 5:8-9; But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
    •  To think that God demonstrates his amazing love towards us.
    • Even though we were sinners, His wrath no longer pertains to us.
    • Through the blood shed at the cross, we have been justified.
    • We are saved from wrath !
  2. Romans 5:10-11; For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God though the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.
    • When we were enemies of God, we were reconciled to Him through the death of Jesus on the cross.
    • But, how much more shall we be saved by His glorious life!
    • This should be a cause of great rejoicing in our lives.
  3. Romans 5:15-16; But the free gift is not like the offense. For if by the one man’s offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. And the gift is not like that which came through the one who sinned. For the judgement which came from one offense resulted in condemnation, but the free gift which came from many offenses resulted in justification.
    • Through Adam’s sin many died!
    • Judgement came from the offense.
    • The result of this sin was, mankind was condemned!
    • Wonderfully, the gift is not like the offense.
    • But, by the grace of one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to us all as a free gift!
    • This gift results in our justification!
  4. Romans 5:17-18; For if by the one man’s offense death reigned through the one, much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgement came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.
    • Through Adam’s offense judgement came to all men and death reigned.
    • But, we shall receive abundance of grace and the gift of righteousness in Him.
    • We can reign in life through our precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
    • Through Christ’s righteous act we have the justification of life.
  5. Romans 5:20-21; Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
    • God gave the law so that no man could say “I didn’t know, no one told me.”
    • The offenses and sin abounded after the introduction of the law.
    • Through the law, sin reigned in death!
    • But, where sin abounded, God’s grace abounded much more.
    • Grace reigned through  Jesus’ righteousness.
    • Through God’s grace, and His ability working through us we reign!
    • We reign through His righteousness to eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord!

If God would have said “the work on the cross was good,” that would have been great. But, he said “much more.” In other words, how much more has the exceeding grace and the gift of righteousness of our Lord blessed mankind.

I close by repeating Smith’s quote again: “Oh that we might take this abundant grace of God, revel in the Word of God, and be full of expectancy that we will have this ‘much more’ manifested as fruit in our lives.”
