Science has proved that our brains can be rewired by the way that we think. That we’re not chained to our environment or DNA holding us trapped in a way of thinking that may be detrimental to our way of life.
Our brains have a neuroplasticity, meaning that they can change. We are not stuck in a rut, unless we choose to be. We can change our thoughts, thus changing the architecture of the brain, and the outcome of our life.
Over the past couple of weeks I’ve been watching the Believers Voice of Victory hosted by Kenneth and Gloria Copeland. In the month of January 2015 they hosted Dr. Caroline Leaf a cognitive neuroscientist on their show.
I have not finished the series, but what I’ve watched so far has been encouraging. Because as disciples of the Lord we’ve all heard the need to transform our minds renewing them so that we might know the ways of God.
Pictorially Dr. Leaf was able to demonstrate the workings of the brain. With prolonged thought, structures within the brain called dendrites (I believe) formed and became more dense.
Prolonged loving thoughts created robust structures, she likened unto healthy leafy trees. And she also explained how prolonged negative thoughts created warped defective structures within the brain.
It made me think of strongholds. We are encouraged to cast the negative strongholds down. But, if there are negative strongholds then that must mean that there are also positive ones as well.
By choosing to renew our minds in line with God’s Word we can cause the negative strongholds to decrease while causing our positive strongholds to increase. By doing this we will be transforming our minds in light of God’s Word.
God designed for us to walk in a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind. Walking in a spirit of fear, where we are full of anxieties, fretting, worrying, and constant stresses, is not what we were created for.
Thankfully, we have away out. Now this might not always be easy, and it will entail concentrated, intentional effort. But, we can choose our course of thinking.
Dr. Leaf contends that we are wired for love. If we think of it, God is love. When we think in accordance to how He is, then we become more and more like Him and the design He desired for our lives.
- By changing our thoughts –
- We will change our actions –
- Which will change our habits –
- Which will change the outcome of our lives
Our minds by our thoughts can change the structures within the brain. It can literally effect our DNA, and those up unto the fourth generation. I found this amazing.
I for one intend to walk in love in accordance to God’s Words. Will you join me? Let’s choose the robust healthy way of thinking. Not the limiting detrimental way of thinking. Let’s choose life!
