What would you do if there was a switch that can be activated that would allow you to excel to levels of peak happiness, thinking, and health? Would you flick the switch on? Or, if there was a pill, would you select it and swallow it?
A little jaunt down a rabbit hole here, the pill question reminded me of the scene in the 1999 movie the Matrix. In the youtube video you see Morpheus giving Neo a choice.
His choices were for the blue pill, continued delusion. Or the red pill for truth. In the book, Dr. Leaf gives us a choice.
She gives steps for fundamental neurological change for truth. This will take intentional effort and work. Or, we could choose to stay in our delusions, and keep the status quo.
The Bible speaks that we have choices. In Deuteronomy we see Moses speaking to the Israelite’s:
Deuteronomy 30:19-20
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.”
I mentioned in a previous post entitled “The Method of Loci” that I wanted to learn the content within Dr. Caroline Leaf’s eBook “Switch On Your Brain: The Key to Peak Happiness, Thinking, and Health.” Along with the Amazon Kindle eBook, I also purchased the companion audio book which is synced.
The syncing capability is a pretty cool feature where I can read when I am able, and when I’m “on the go,” can switch to audio to listen to the content. Or, do both (read along as the audio version is running).
I’ve listened through the book once during my daily commutes, and have started the second round of listening. But, I also want to read the book through, absorb the content, and more importantly, do it!
My purpose in blogging the content is because #3 of the 5 action points mentioned for the 21 Day Brain Detox says that we should write down our thoughts. I know blogging about the content will make it stick better in my memory.
My goal is to continuously improve as a believer in Christ. In Romans 12:1-2 we are encouraged to renew our mind, so that we would know what was good, acceptable, and perfect will of God in all situations. In other words, to do the right thing!
Romans 12:1-2
1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
I want to adhere to this the best that I can. I’m not where I want to be, but, I also am not where I was either. There has been spiritual, intellectual, and emotional growth over the years.
I would like for Jesus to be pleased with me and my life. How about you? I know you do.
